International sourcing
International sourcing.
UK accountability.
Winnington is a UK-based business with an international outlook. We look for the manufacturing and supply route that fits each requirement, then take responsibility for it in the UK.
01 · Our approach
The right route for each requirement.
We aren’t tied to one factory, one country or one way of making packaging. Each requirement is assessed on its own terms, and the manufacturing and supply options that fit are put in front of you with the evidence.
Manufacturers produce to a Winnington-managed specification. We coordinate samples, production, documentation and freight, and you deal with one accountable partner in the UK.
02 · What decides it
Nine things we weigh for every requirement.
No single factor decides where packaging is made. The balance depends on the product, the volume and what matters most to you.
- 01
Product requirements
What the pack has to do for this product, on this line, through this supply chain.
- 02
Quality
Site standards, process controls and documentation suited to the product.
- 03
Technical suitability
The right equipment, materials and know-how for the format.
- 04
Cost
Landed cost: unit price, freight, duty and minimum order, not just the quoted price.
- 05
Capacity
Volume confirmed for the specific SKU before we quote.
- 06
Lead time
Realistic production and transit times, agreed in writing.
- 07
Compliance
Food-contact, regulatory and customer requirements met and documented.
- 08
Commercial objectives
Price, stock, payment terms and continuity that suit your business.
- 09
Your priorities
What matters most to you, weighed openly rather than assumed.
03 · Principles
Right-sized packaging, sourced on the evidence.
Not every customer needs the most technically sophisticated or expensive packaging. Different products have different performance and cost requirements.
01
Right-sized, not over-specified
Different products have different performance and cost requirements. We specify what the product needs, not the most sophisticated or expensive option by default.
02
Near or far, on the evidence
Some items are best made close to your site, others further afield. Freight, lead time and risk are weighed alongside unit price.
03
Resilience
Access to more than one manufacturing option means alternatives exist if a single source is disrupted.
04
One point of accountability
However many manufacturers are involved, you deal with Winnington in the UK.
