Sustainability
Lower-impact packaging, specified properly.
For UK manufacturers, packaging sustainability is now a regulatory and commercial issue. Plastic Packaging Tax, Extended Producer Responsibility and retailer targets all depend on accurate specifications and evidence.
01 · The levers
Four ways to reduce packaging impact.
01
Design for recycling
Mono-material PE and PP structures to replace mixed laminates, where barrier and machinability allow.
02
Recycled content
rPET trays and recycled-content films, with documentary evidence of the recycled content.
03
Material reduction
Down-gauging and right-sizing, validated against handling and shelf life before adoption.
04
Fibre alternatives
Paper-based flow wrap, board trays and moulded fibre for suitable applications.
02 · Reporting support
Data for PPT and EPR, per SKU.
UK Plastic Packaging Tax applies to plastic packaging with less than 30% recycled content. Extended Producer Responsibility requires obligated businesses to report packaging by material and weight.
For every SKU we manage, we can provide material composition, unit weight and recycled-content evidence to support your reporting.
This is supporting data, not tax or compliance advice. Your obligations depend on your business.
+Regulatory notes (check dates before relying on them)
UK flexible plastics: RAM 2027 Red, outside approved take-back.
Kerbside film collection, England: 1 April 2030.

03 · Our principles
No greenwash in the specification.
“Mono-PE, designed for recycling in PE film streams.” “100% recyclable.”
- 01Product protection comes first. Packaging that fails creates more waste than it saves.
- 02Every sustainability claim needs evidence we can put in your file.
- 03Changes are trialled on your line before they reach commercial supply.
- 04We tell you the cost implication up front.
The Winnington Packaging Review
Review a SKU for recyclability.
Send the current specification and your target, whether recyclability, recycled content or weight. We’ll assess what’s achievable without compromising protection or line performance.
